6-Year-Old Drives Car Into The Operating Room Before Surgery

Published In Other

6-year-old Logan Shane was nervous about going into the operating room. But a hospital in Pennsylvania is working to eliminate stress before surgery in the coolest way. Logan was born with a thin spot on the left side of skull. The area was so paper thin that you could shine a flashlight on the boy’s head and actually see his brain.

When the condition did not correct itself over time, Logan’s parents decided that surgery would be the best option. Shortly before his second surgery, the 6-year-old started to get anxious and nerves began to set in. “It just broke my heart because he would start to get upset and cry. He knew what he was going to face being that he was in that position before,” Logan’s mom said.

Thankfully, York Hospital, where Logan would be receiving treatment, had just implemented a new plan to help ease stress before procedures. The hospital brought in 2 electric cars for children that can be operated by the driver or a nurse with a remote control. This means that right before surgery, when nerves are at their height, the kids can take a much-needed joy ride around the halls. Logan even drove his car right up to the operating room. Logan’s mom was touched by the entire experience. “He just saw that car and it was kind of like all his fears and worries were over.” After a successful surgery, this happy little boy is working towards recovery. What a unique idea to help kids during their time of need.
