8-Year-Old Leukemia Survivor Meets Donor

Published In Other

8-year-old AJ was only 4 years old when he was diagnosed with leukemia. After intense treatment, he went into remission, but in the summer of 2015, AJ relapsed.

It was obvious that treatment wasn't working and that the only option for him would be a transplant. Unfortunately, no one in the family was a match for AJ so they turned to Be the Match, a national bone marrow donation organization that helps patients connect with donors.

That's where AJ found his donor, a 22-year-old college student from Ohio named Alexa. Thanks to her selflessness, AJ is now cancer-free and he's meeting his lifesaver for the first time in person. What an incredible moment full of joy and tears.
