Alabama Tribute Leaves Lead Singer Randy Owen In Tears

Published In Music

An Alabama tribute from country artists moved lead singer Randy Owen to tears. 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of Country Cares For St. Jude Kids.

The fundraising campaign was started by Randy Owen as a way for the country community to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The hospital works tirelessly to fight childhood cancer and the efforts of Randy, and other country stars, have helped raise over $800 million for the program.

Now, on this special anniversary, St. Jude is honoring Randy Owen for his amazing work. This included dedicating a room to Randy and his family, along with a concert from the Alabama star and other big names. It was during the musical event that Randy was moved to tears. Michael Ray, Jake Owen and Clint Black joined him on stage as they sang some of their popular hits.

Randy made a joke that the younger performers should sing an extra song because no one wanted to hear his old hits. That’s when all 3 of the other artists belted out an incredible rendition of “Lady Down On Love.”

“Now she's a lady down on love
She needs somebody to gently pick her up
She's got her freedom, but she'd rather be bound
To a man who would love her and never let her down”

Hearing the next generation sing this classic Alabama song led to an emotional reaction from Randy. In fact, he had to excuse himself from the stage to regain composure for the rest of the performance. I think it’s safe to say that we’ll never get tired of hearing songs like this. Do you agree?
