Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Diamond performs a live rendition of his hit song ‘America.’

This hit song was originally released in 1980 on the soundtrack for Neil’s movie, The Jazz Singer. It quickly rose to the top of the charts and has remained a favorite for decades.

“Far
We've been traveling far without a home
But not without a star
Free
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream”

Before this live performance of ‘America’ at The Greek Theater, Neil shares that his grandmother traveled to America when she was just a little girl. “She and her daughter, Rose, inspired me to achieve everything that I’ve achieved in my life.”

He went on to say, “Her courage will never be forgotten and it sings in every song I sing.” This patriotic anthem paints a picture of coming to America and pursuing a dream.

“Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we'll say our grace
Freedom's light burning warm
Freedom's light burning warm”

The end of this song features a beautiful rendition of ‘My Country ‘Tis Of Thee’ and it always has the crowd going wild. This live performance features images of the American flag and other signs of liberty.

Whether at home or performing overseas, Neil has said that this song is always a popular number. The uplifting lyrics combined with his smooth vocals make this a winning combination that is sure to continue for decades to come. Who else is singing along?
