Mr. Rogers Helps Little Girl With Rare Brain Disease
Beth Usher was just 5-years-old when she started to experience multiple seizures a day. Sometimes, she would have more than 100 seizures that would cause her to stumble or fall. During this time, the only thing that could comfort Beth was the television show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
For some reason, the voice of Mr. Rogers helped calm Beth down and she would not have any seizures. She started to look at him as an actual friend and not just a TV friend. 2 years later, Beth was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called Rasmussen’s encephalitis.
Doctors suggested an intense brain surgery and before the big day, Beth's mother decided to try and reach Mr. Rogers' assistant in hopes of getting a card or picture for Beth. But Mr. Rogers went above and beyond and called Beth right before the surgery. She was able to talk to her friend and share all of her feelings.
Then, after surgery, this amazing man came to visit Beth in the hospital and brought along all of his famous puppets. Beth was in a coma but just hearing the voice of her friend and confidant helped her come back to life.
Mr. Rogers continued to keep in touch with Beth throughout the years and now she's sharing the touching story. What an incredible man.
