Nothing Ever Happens' Reminds Us To Care For The Lonely At Christmas
A touching video is reminding us all the reach out to the lonely at Christmas.
Each holiday season, everyone is the United Kingdom looks forward to the John Lewis Christmas advertisement. This department store is known for putting out epic commercials about the power of gift giving.
But this year, Ben Potts and Andy Green decided to shine a light on a much bigger subject. The duo re-recorded the Del Amitri song ‘Nothing Ever Happens’ with a live orchestra and choir, Tyneside Voices. This song served as the backdrop for an emotional video about loneliness during the Christmas season.
“And nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all
The needle returns to the start of the song
And we all sing along like before
And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow”
The video introduces us to Santa Claus as he visits a children’s hospital on Christmas. He goes room to room delivering presents to all of the boys and girls. But at the end of the evening, he goes home by himself, with no one to spend the holidays with. That’s when he hears a knock at that door and it overcome with joy at his special visitors.
As the video concluded, we were reminded that in the UK, more than 13,000 children will spend Christmas in the hospital. Even more staggering is that over half a million adults age 65 and older will be alone on Christmas.
This Christmas, Ben and Andy encourage everyone to reach out to someone that may be lonely this Christmas and give them the gift of yourself. What an incredible message!
