In this heartwarming video, a school surprises a sick teacher who has cancer with a ‘fight song’ serenade.

Emily Marshall is a first-grade teacher at Central Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma. She has been a teacher there for 21 years and loves the students and staff very much. Recently, Mrs. Marshall was diagnosed with breast cancer for the eighth time. Her students and the other teachers at Central Elementary wanted to put on a surprise for her to show her how much she means to them.

As Emily walked through the door of the gymnasium, the whole student body screamed “We love you Mrs. Marshall!” She was in shock and put her hands to her face right after the initial surprise.

During the surprise assembly, Mrs. Marshall had her husband, Danny, and their three children, Noah, Samantha, and Bryce, right beside her.

Zachary Snyder, the music teacher at the school, taught the first graders the song ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten to help encourage Mrs. Marshall.

“Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me”

“We love her. We care about her,” says Mr. Snyder. “We want her to know that she is not fighting this battle alone.”

As Mrs. Marshall watches the first graders sing and dance, she wipes away tears from her eyes. She is so moved by their compassion.

“I thank you guys all for supporting me through this,” Mrs. Marshall says. “I love all of you. Thank you.”
