The Old Rugged Cross' Jimmy Fortune Live Performance

Published In Music

Talented musician Jimmy Fortune performs a soul-stirring rendition of the classic hymn ‘The Old Rugged Cross.’ This iconic song has been a favorite for decades with it’s powerful lyrics and beautiful melody.

“On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain”

Jimmy Fortune has been a staple in the country music scene for decades. He started out as a member of famed The Statler Brothers and toured with them for over 20 years.

After his retirement from the band, he embarked on a successful solo career that included a hit gospel album. Now, he’s teamed up with the world-renowned Gaither Studios to perform ‘The Old Rugged Cross.’

“So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown”

Every time I hear these words, I am reminded of the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for our sins. Now, we are all forgiven and freed from our chains. What a beautiful gift that truly is and this hymn is the perfect way to give thanks to His Name.

1 Peter 2:24-25 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
