In their new album, The Willis Clan join together again to write and perform their music. This comes a year after their father was sent to prison for child abuse. Now the talented Tennessee family, known for their TLC television show, “The Willis Family” and their incredible musical performances, are sharing their healing moments through song.

"We were just writing [the songs] for therapeutic reasons," said Jeremiah Willis, 25. "And after enough of those songs have been written by various members of the band we realized, 'This is good for us. I wonder if it can help other people.'"

As more victims of abuse being to surface in society, the family thought their experiences and lyrics may be an encouragement to others who are struggling to find healing. So many are scared to speak up and worried if they will be listened to or shunned.

The song ‘Speak My Mind’ was written by eldest daughter, Jessica Willis, who spoke out about the abuse she suffered from her father. She has taken time off from the family musical group while she goes through her own version of healing and recovery.

Sample lyrics include:

“This will probably stay locked away
And only come out on a rainy day,
‘Cause I will probably go,
And never show,
Every little thing I want you to know."

The emotionall lyrics continue with:

"If I speak my mind, Will you take the time,
Will you try to find a way?
If I take you there, will you say you care,
Will you understand and say,
There’s gotta be more courage I can find,
to speak my mind”

The words of the song are so powerful and act as a voice for those who may be conflicted about whether they should speak up against their abuser.

"You can live beyond any traumatic experience and you can live a life that is full of joy and peace and just happiness," Jennifer Willis McDowell said to the Chicago Tribune.
