What A Lovely Name' Live From Our Favorite Gaither Voices

Published In Music

This uplifting music video from 1995 shows Vestal Goodman performing the song ‘What A Lovely Name’ at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

“There's a name above all others, wonderful to hear, bringing hope and cheer.
It's the lovely name of Jesus, evermore the same, what a lovely name.
What a lovely name, the name of Jesus.
Reaching higher far, than the brightest star.
Sweeter than the songs they sing in heaven.
Let the world proclaim, what a lovely name.”

The most beautiful name in the world is Jesus, and how wonderful it is to call him our Savior!

“Wow! Glory to Jesus, hallelujah and may God's name be praised forever, Amen,” writes one person after watching this video on YouTube.

“Sister Vestal sang this song the very best of anyone in my experience,” comments another person on YouTube. “Now she's singing in heaven at the feet of Jesus.”

Vestal Goodman was a southern gospel singer who performed for more than half a century. She was a member of the Happy Goodman Family, which was one of the pioneering southern gospel music groups. The group originated with her husband and his brothers and sisters.

In the 1990s, Vestal worked on many Gaither Homecoming music projects, like the one in this video. And she was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2004.

What a wonderful legacy Vestal leaves behind! One that shows how important and joyful it is to sing praises to our Lord!

Psalm 150:1-6
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
