Barbershop Quartet The Fairfield Four Perform 'Amazing Grace'

Published In Music

A barbershop quartet called The Fairfield Four perform a wonderful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ that will lift your spirits!

One of the members of The Fairfield Four start off the performance by saying “He’s faithful, He just, and He’s good. And above all, there’s something about His…”

Then the group goes straight into singing those classic and beloved lyrics.

“Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.”

The song is simple and so well known, yet it’s powerful every time you hear it. And the harmonies that you hear when The Fairfield Four sing are so rich and soulful. They add a depth and fullness to the song. Each part vocally is so clearly heard, yet all of the voices blend together.

The Fairfield Four truly make ‘Amazing Grace’ their own, and I love the style that they added to it. The gentlemen also look so nice and dapper up on stage in their bowties and top hats.

The group was founded in 1921 in Nashville, TN and are known for singing songs in the traditional African American a cappella gospel style. They have received multiple honors including two Lifetime Achievement Awards and three Grammy Awards. They won a Grammy for Best Traditional Gospel Recording for ‘I Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray’ in 1997, Album of the Year for the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack recording in 2001, and the Best Gospel Roots album for ‘Still Rockin' My Soul’ in 2016. Also, The Fairfield Four was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999.

It’s wonderful to see the success that The Fairfield Four has had. And what a blessing to know that this group has continued to make God known through the years and praise Him with their beautiful music!
