Blind Audition Turns All 4 Chair With Gospel Song 'I Smile'

Published In Other

Matthew Johnson turns all four chairs on The Voice with his rendition of ‘I Smile.’ Grammy award-winning artist Kirk Franklin originally released this gospel song in 2011. Now, the powerful lyrics continue to touch hearts all over the world.

“I smile,
Even though I hurt, see, I smile
I know God is working so I smile
Even though I've been here for a while
What you do? I smile
Come on, smile
It's so hard to look up when you've been down
Sure would hate to see you give up now
God's people, you look so much better when you smile, so smile”

There’s no doubt that Florida native, Matthew Johnson, is a gifted singer.

Today, he’s following his dreams all the way to The Voice stage and his blind audition is making a big splash. Matthew had barely finished the first note of ‘I Smile’ when coach Blake Shelton hit his button to turn his chair around. One by one, the other three judges turned around to see the face behind that golden voice. After the audition was over, Blake, Kelly, John and Adam all fought it out to secure Matthew on their team. But it was John Legend, with his church background, who eventually earned bragging rights.

I’m so glad that we’ll be seeing Matthew again on this competition. If his next performance is anything like this blind audition than we are in for an amazing season. What did you think of this Kirk Franklin cover on the voice?
