Bluegrass 'Nothing But the Blood' By The McKinney Sisters
This bluegrass version of 'Nothing but the Blood' is performed by The McKinney Sisters.
“What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
The McKinney Sisters sang their version of this song at a bluegrass gospel concert at Garden Community Church. They start off singing the song slowly, but they pick up the tempo to a livelier beat as the song goes on. The harmonies that they add to the song are just beautiful! The sisters are clearly talented musicians and are each skilled at their own instrument.
This bluegrass gospel band is from Kansas and have won a few awards over the years. In 2018, The McKinney Sisters won Kansas Harmony Singing Champions. They were featured in the Lone Chimney Films docudrama, "Home on the Range", as well as on its soundtrack.
They released their debut album, "The McKinney Sisters", in 2015 and their second album, "Homesick for Heaven" in early 2016. Their third album, "Go Tell It", was released in 2017, just in time for Christmas.
As for the song 'Nothing but the Blood,' it was written by Robert Lowry in 1876. Lowry was a Baptist minister and a college professor, yet he is best remembered for the many popular and well-loved hymns that he wrote.
"Nothing but the Blood" is a classic gospel song that focuses on a single theme and hammers it home. Lowry wrote a call-response pattern in the stanzas of the song that immediately engages the singer. The resounding answer to the questions asked in the lyrics is “nothing but the blood of Jesus."
May you be uplifted and encouraged while listening to this bluegrass version of ‘Nothing but the Blood.”
