Actress and performer Cynthia Erivo sings a heartfelt rendition of ‘Stand Up’ from the new HARRIET film.

HARRIET tells the real-life story of iconic woman of faith and freedom fighter, Harriet Tubman. This is the first film to follow Tubman on her escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.

Cynthia stars as the title character of Harriet. Not only is she an incredibly talented actress, but she’s also a seasoned stage performer. Just listen as she belts out these empowering lyrics.

“That's when I'm gonna stand up
Take my people with me
Together we are going
To a brand new home
Far across the river
Can you hear freedom calling?
Calling me to answer
Gonna keep on keepin' on
I can feel it in my bones”

‘Stand Up’ was written by Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo. The words remind us of the sacrifice and bravery that Harriet Tubman displayed. There is a reason that she is such an inspiration throughout history and, now, her story will be portrayed in an entirely new way.

“And I know what's around the bend
Might be hard to face 'cause I'm alone
And I just might fail
But Lord knows I tried
Sure as stars fill up the sky”

This remarkable woman truly is a pioneer and inspiration and it is incredible to watch this true tale unfold on the big screen. Her journey is a story that you do not want to miss. You can see HARRIET in theaters on November 1, 2019.
