Published In Music

This stunning take of the classic “I Wonder as I Wander” comes from acclaimed artist, Lindsey Stirling’s expanded Christmas album, “Warmer in the Winter (Deluxe Edition)”. The beautiful song gives us the opportunity to hear Lindsey’s icy vocals in all their glory!

“I wonder as I wander out under the sky
How Jesus, my savior, did come for to die
For poor on'ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky”

Lindsey is known not only for her talented singing voice but being an accomplished violinist and dancer as well. We are loving this video which showcases all of Lindsey’s talents mixed with a favorite Christmas song. Lindsey perfectly blends her foot work to enhance her violin playing. The contrast between the icy winter tundra and the sandy beach at sunset are perfect for this whimsical sounding version of the traditional song. Performing in these vast landscapes truly brings the emotion of the lyrics to life!

The original version of “I Wonder as I Wander” was discovered by John Jacob Niles in 1933. This folk tune was sung repeatedly for him by a young girl named Annie while he jotted down the tune. Niles later finalized a version of this famous Appalachian folk song and published it in his “Songs of the Hill-Folk”.

It’s been nearly 86 years and this pensive Christmas carol, written in a minor key, continues to be a favorite for many. We’re loving Lindsey’s version and have already added it to our holiday music playlist!
