Nearer My God to Thee' - AcapEldridge

Published In Other

Michael Eldridge, who goes by the band name, Acapeldridge, describes himself as a one-man, a capella gospel quartet. His harmonies lend themselves perfect to this old hymn, Nearer My God to Thee’.

“My greatest desire is to serve my God with the gift He has given me: Today, I can sing, and so I will. If I can sing tomorrow, I’ll sing tomorrow too. But the highest goal for which I fight daily is to sing praises to my God in His presence, in Heaven. What a day it will be!” Michael shared on his webpage.

Michael had what he called an idyllic childhood in Indiana, and he always loved singing. But it wasn’t until 2017 when a friend showed Michael an app that allows him to sing and record himself singing multiple tracks of harmony with himself that he realized a new way to use his talents to glorify God! “This was the spark I needed, Michael shared. “I encountered many obstacles that could have completely halted my work, but I pressed on. I continually prayed that God would help me and that He would be glorified through my efforts, and He has helped me overcome at each stumbling block.”

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain:
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee.
There let the way appear, steps unto Heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee.
Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee.
Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.
There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest,
There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be nearer, my God, to Thee.
